Six Nations 2017: Italy v Ireland Prediction

Hutch previews the Italy v Ireland match and shares his Superbru prediction.

I’m feeling confident on the back of a full house of predictions last weekend, and particularly smug for being in the 14% on Superbru that predicted a win for Scotland over Ireland.

SuperbruIt’s Ireland first up again this weekend, versus Italy in Rome, and it will be interesting to see how they respond to their opening day defeat. Some have said that the Azzurri could be a potential banana skin for Ireland, but I can’t see them losing this one.

I thought Italy would run Wales a little closer than they did last weekend, although perhaps the final score wasn’t a perfect reflection of the match.

This weekend, the weather looks pretty good in Rome, and Ireland will be targeting a Bonus Point win to ensure they don’t drop out of contention after last week’s defeat. They have a tendency to turn down kickable penalties in favour of going for the try anyway, and they could well rack up a few tries – particularly if Sergio Parisse is not 100% fit, as seems to be the case.

The bookies have Ireland with a 23-point handicap, which feels about right considering the logic above, and I’m going to pick them to cover that and be 4 tries better than their opposition.

SuperbruMy prediction: Ireland by 28

Average Superbru Prediction: Ireland by 16.17

Paddy Power: Ireland by 23

I think in this one we will see an Irish backlash with a bonus point win, possibly 5 tries to 1. Thatl take the score to around 40 points for Ireland and 10 for Italy. I agree with the above
Ireland by 28, and to cover the bookies handicap
