Here’s your chance to don your selectors’ hat and pick the England team to face Argentina this weekend. The official announcement is on Thursday morning, so cast your votes in the polls below and we can see how it compares to Eddie Jones’ lineup.
I have grouped the polls along the lines of Jones’ positional groupings, who hasn’t differentiated between wings and full-backs, and has collectively named the second row and back row as the back five.
These groupings mean that there are no players like Owen Farrell or Elliot Daly in multiple positions which means that their votes are split, and hopefully the polls make sense! These are the players that are preparing for the match this weekend at Pennyhill Park, according to last night’s squad update.
Surprised to see Daly called back in the squad when Wasps seemed to think he’d miss all of November.
Is there an update from England at all on whether he is actually fit and an option for selection? Also, May isn’t an option this weekend I believe?
This was the note on Daly in the press release:
“Elliot Daly (Wasps) has been recalled after he was withdrawn from the squad that travelled to Portugal having picked up a knee injury last Saturday.”
No mention of Jonny May’s fitness, but he is on the squad list.
Based on that I assume both are considered for selection? If they are fit, I’d play them with with Watson as a back three. Brown as a bench option to cover?
If one or either isn’t fit, then Brown as start with Watson shifting back to wing and if neither are fit then a Watson, Brown and Roko back three is needed!
I would assume so too, Jacob, else I think it would have been stated that they are undergoing treatment.
Daly, May and Watson would be my picks.
Interesting to see Sam Underhill emerging as a popular option – a back row of Robshaw, Underhill, Hughes, with Lawes and Itoje in the second row.
That’s how I went with it!
I went for: Mako, Hartley, Cole, Lawes, Itoje, Robshaw, Underhill, Hughes, Youngs, Ford, May, Farrell, JJ, Watson, Daly.
George, Genge, Williams, Launchbury, Simmonds, Care, Slade, Roko
Feel really harsh on Kruis but Lawes and Itoje have gone ahead in the lock pecking orders during 2017 and Launchbury is just a better option to create impact off the bench…
Dunn is a hooker?
Ah sorry, amended!
We know we can beat Argentina from the summer tours so I’ve tried to go a bit more of an experimental blend so that we an see what some newer faces have to offer, while still keeping some experienced heads. Back 3 picked based on who is fit plus i refuse to pick Solomona
Genge, George, Cole, Isiekwe, Lawes, Robshaw (c), Simmonds, Youngs (vc), Ford, Francis, Slade, Rocko, Watson, Brown
Bench would be
Dunn, Mako, Williams, Itoje, launch, Hughes, Care, Joseph
Think you’re short a flanker there Leon
Simulating a scenario where a player is sent off immediately maybe?
Good spot, I was going to have Underhill at openside but he must have questioned the refs integrity in the tunnel and gone back to unlace his boots
My team was
Vunipola
George
Cole
Itoje
Lawes
Robshaw
Underhill
Simmonds
Youngs
Farrell
Daly
Slade
Joseph
Took
Watson
Little bit of a new back line and a change at number 8 but I think Farrell needs a shot at 10 and Slade definitely needs game time. Would love to see Watson running from fullback. Simmonds excites me he has running for days and offers something different from Billy V. Hugh’s hasn’t impressed me since his debut and it would be exciting so see a completely different style of 8 have a run
Roko for took bloody autocorrect
Backs lineup looks really exciting to me.
Possible backs lineup for me of :
Farrell
Roko
Slade
Daly
Solomona
And Watson….has alot of pace about it.
Imagine if Wade was there too (off the bench perhaps…..OMG!)
