1 – Joe Marler (Harlequins)
Marler certainly delivered in Big Game 10, dominating in the scrum and carrying well in his 60 minute shift for the England international.
2 – Dave Ward (Harlequins)
A few lineout mishaps can be forgiven as it was a man-of-the-match display from the Harlequin, running a great line of Kyle Sinckler and outstepped fullback Harry Mallinder to score, Ward was also really strong in the carry and making a half a dozen turnovers in the contact.
3 – Harry Williams (Exeter)
Williams handled his opponent well in the scrum and carried vigorously and was part of a dominant maul setpiece. Let’s hope his concussion isn’t too serious.
4 – Joe Launchbury (Wasps)
Launchbury was again immense on Friday night, carrying hard all night and also showed great handling to set up a try for Wasps.
5 – Jonny Hill (Exeter)
Hill was constantly putting Exeter on the front foot, was also a commanding presence in his setpiece and finished well in the corner to top of an all-round great performance.
6 – James Chisholm (Harlequins)
Chisholm lead from the front for his team, carrying superbly which enabled Smith to thrive on front-foot ball, a late yellow card can be forgiven for offside in what otherwise was a commanding performance from the flanker.
7 – Don Armand (Exeter)
Armand showed immense strength to score under the posts, carried hard all afternoon and was also tricky for Leicester to deal with at the breakdown in a man-of-the-match performance which leaves a large majority of people scratching their heads as to why he isn’t an England regular.
8 – Jackson Wray (Saracens)
In two consecutive weeks now, Wray was been absolutely superb and has really stepped up recently. On Saturday he worked very hard in the carry and scored a brace of tries from close range to secure Saracens a bonus-point win over Worcester.
9 – Dan Robson (Wasps)
The Wasps scrumhalf was so sharp on Friday night, dummying before showing great leg-drive to score his try before spotting a gap and showcasing good footwork to set up Juan de Jongh for his try.
10 – Marcus Smith (Harlequins)
An absolutely masterclass from the Quins was spearheaded by the sensational Marcus Smith. It was just an amazing all-round performance, with big hits in defence (including that powerful tackle on Luther Burrell), sublime passing, sharp footwork and pinpoint accurate kicking both from ball in hand and kicking for the sticks. All in front of England boss Eddie Jones, he must have been impressed.
11 – Tim Visser (Harlequins)
Marcus Watson is unlucky to miss out but in my opinion tried too hard to outshine his younger brother, deliberately knocked the ball on twice and he was yellow carded. So my left winger this week goes to Visser, who scored two great team tries both orchestrated by Smith and was unlucky not to get a third of a big Mat Luamanu carry.
12 – Jamie Roberts (Harlequins)
On a big occasion and in light of a somewhat very suspect defence, the big Welshman had a field day, running brilliant lines and making loads of meetings and also made some bone-crunching hits, including one on Nic Groom and the other on Piers Francis.
13 – Juan de Jongh (Wasps)
The South African is beginning to blend in well at Wasps and on Friday was sharp in attack and picking a great line to finish off a Dan Robson break.
14 – Alex Tait (Newcastle)
Tait was very good against a spirited Exiles team, timing his run superbly to gather a perfectly waited kick from Juan Pablo Socino and charged down a kick and gathered it to r
15 – Willie le Roux (Wasps)
le Roux has been producing his best rugby in a Wasps shirt for he timed a magnificent offload for Wasps’ 1st try and was solid under the high ball.

I’m not sure what more Michael Rhodes had to do to get in this side. An immense performance at 6 after a long lay off injured was the driving force in Saracens win.
Also Owen Farrell must have been close to the ten berth, some of his passing was sublime, his kicking in testing conditions was exemplary and in defence he hit hard and well. And whilst not taking away from Smith’s excellent performance i reckon even i,an unfit diabetic 45 year old no.8 would have looked good at 10 against that shocking Saints performance!
hahaha I’m sure I would have looked good against the Saints as well. Only saw the highlights of the Saracens game so I didn’t really see anything that Rhodes did
Hear hear Jeremy,I was at the game and Rhodes was immense. One of Sarries biggest problems during our little demi annus horriblus was lack of control at the breakdown and really felt he brought some of that back and his running lines and hands were, at times , sublime. How he hasn’t been capped for the Boks is beyond me!
A shout for ref of the week to JP Doyle who lets the game flow and is almost alone in allowing play to continue if a scrum goes to the floor provided the team putting in are getting decent possession. Most of the other refs seem to blow as soon as a scrum starts to go backwards and guess who is at fault on a random basis. Didn’t see Robson but he must gave been good to get the nod in front of Danny Care who is playing out of his skin at the moment.
Yes I thought JP was superb, it meant Luamanu had to play which he couldn’t. In my opinion Luamanu should play 6 with Chisholm going to 8 as Chisholm’s got a better skillset of the base of the scrum. However that catch from Luamanu to set up Care was sensational
Hadn’ t really considered that aspect of it Jacob, but you are right. I think he struggles to bend forward over his stomach. Once Clifford and Wallace are fully fit I think he will have to shift at least a couple of stone to get in the starting line up.
Yes Luamanu does need to lose weight and get fitter. My ideal Harlequins back row would be Robshaw, Clifford and Bothma
Good shout Andy. JP reffed a couple of scrums brilliantly when Saints were rolled backwards but remained legal instead of pinging the retreating scrum he just shouted scrum is legal use it once it slowed, which you almost never see.
Not totally convinced by Bothma yet. I recognise he is possibly still finding his feet after a long lay off but he seems to me to have plenty of power not necessarily allied to great spatial awareness.
I thought against Ulster he was fantastic
