  1. Just noticed Bath released Guy Mercer. Seems like a strange one, he always looked a good player. Guess competition for 7 there is fierce

Surely someone else will snap him up?

    1. Agreed Pablito – I thought that it was a bit odd, but then nothing surprises me when it comes to Bath at the moment. Very pleased with Banahan in Cherry and White – he looked very good last night, so quite happy to benefit from Bath woes.

    2. Do you mean Zach Mercer? Guy has been a long serving Bath player but hasnt had a proper look in and spent the latter part of last season on loan. Bath will cope.

  2. I assume Sale Sharks are paying all their academy recruits next to nothing as they’ve only ousted four players? Ashton still a marquee signing?

I also thought McGuigan was leaving this season?

    1. i don’t think academy players count against your salary cap so maybe they are still classed as academy

      According to Wikipedia
      Players In
      Joe Jones from Perpignan
      James Phillips from Bath
Rohan Janse van Rensburg from Lions
      Chris Ashton from France Toulon

      Players Out
      Mike Haley to Munster
      Josh Charnley to Warrington Wolves
      Will Addison to Ulster
David Seymour to England Sale FC
      Halani Aulika to Grenoble
      TJ Ioane to London Irish

      1. I would’ve thought players being promoted to the senior squad would be counted in the salary cap?

        1. That depends if they have actually been promoted to the senior squad or not
11 players suggests that is the whole academy squad so the article might be incorrect

  3. Had forgotten that Chudley had left Exeter. Was quite an important squad player for them. Time for a Maunder or two to step up.

    1. I think Exeter are lacking in the SH dept. Nic White is a speedy deliverer of the ball but his tactical kicking is below par with 50% of his box kicks being charged down more often than not. I don’t know if Stu Maunder was injured or not last season, but the previous season he was on fire, rotating with Chudleigh.

      1. I assume that you mean Sam Maunder. I’m not sure that he was injured much, but wasn’t playing to the standards that got him an England cap. However he is still young and I can see him bouncing back. Difficult to choose, but I think that Jack may be the better of the two in the long run, but early days yet for him.

        1. Apologies, was thinking of Stu Townsend! That’s the problem, some young and inexperienced SH’s coming through and on the fringes, but no one to settle a game if White is having a mare. With Lewis and Chudleigh gone there’s not a great deal left in the cupboard.

          1. Actually realised that I am getting my Maunder’s mixed up. It was Jack that got the cap and Sam has just joined from the academy. Apologies to them! So depth wise they go White, Townsend or Maunder, J and then Maunder, S. That’s not too bad. Baxter has a great track record of bringing through youngsters, and I guess the SH position will be no different.

  4. Forgot to mention the most important new addition at Glos …. the new pitch. It should help the Glos team play the way that Ackers wants. Will be interesting to watch how the team performs home and away in playing style.

  5. A big season and a new start for Kieran Brookes at Wasps.I Hope playing under a former front row beast will reignite his career. It would be good for EJ too if so.We don’t have at lot of real contenders for the number three shirt.
