Rob Howley has announced the Wales squad to prepare for their Autumn Internationals Fixtures against Australia, Argentina, Japan and South Africa.
The main news is that Rhys Priestland misses out, whilst the uncapped Osprey Sam Davies is included.

Backs: Gareth Davies, Rhys Webb, Lloyd Williams, Gareth Anscombe, Dan Biggar, Sam Davies, Jonathan Davies, Tyler Morgan, Jamie Roberts, Scott Williams, Hallam Amos, Alex Cuthbert, Leigh Halfpenny, George North, Liam Williams
How do you think Wales will get on this Autumn? How many can they win?

How can Luke Charteris be selected, I thought they were limited to North, Faletau and Roberts from outside Wales? Which is why Priestland misses out.
I think the law does not apply to anyone contracted abroad before the law came in (like Halfpenny) or anyone who wasn’t offered a dual contract/was offered a deal deemed to be below the market value. I think Charteris was the latter – i.e no one offered him a contract which was comparative to what he earned at Racing 92/Bath. I think the idea is not to penalise players who would have to accept a massive pay cut to return to Wales.
He had not received an *formal* offer before he signed for Bath. He had been in talks with the Blues, but these were obviously not *formal*.
I think they will struggle for that first match without Faletau, North, Roberts, Day, Thomas and Rhodri Williams as the game falls outside World Rugby’s autumn Tests window. Can’t understand how firstly Charteris is allowed to be selected, but also how he can be available for this game?
Sorry, took ages to finish composing my post, and only then saw the other replies which explain my confusion about Charteris.
And it is quite confusing!!!!
Faletau is injured so should not be considered.
The ABs don’t ‘name in the hope he gets fits’.
Wales have done this too often (2016 6n AWJ for example..we can go back as far as the RWC 1991 with the team manager (ex-Cardiff RFC ) singing the praises of one Mark Ringo (also Cardiff RFC) and calling him
‘
the joker up our sleeve’
Wales v W Samoa 13-16…the joke was on Wales I am afraid!
Cuthbert is totally useless but the former and current Cardiff backs/attack coaches fast-track him back asdo the acting Wales Coach and the former Wales attack coach.
Gethin Jenkins did not last what 5….0 mins against the Ospreys when the Blues were cut to pieces?
Anscombe is the 2015 Iestyn Harries….huge fanfare but turns all he touches into mud.
So expect failure against the Aussies ad the Boks as Howley, just like Gatland before him picks his team based on favourites and not form.
Patchell has been playing well for the Scarlets but of course he left the Cardiff Blues and so Howley and co will exile him as a punishment.
Half expected to see Tom James there too. He’ll be back for the 6n 2017 with Cuthberk rightfully restored to the starting 15!
And now ‘Captain Darling’ isn’t playing this week either!
wales will struggle to win a game, our rugby has gone backwards since 2013.
Yes Ivor,
It seems that since so many of them were on the winning Lions Team in that test series they may feel that they’ve done as well they ever could and cannot/will not move forward as time passes.
Still no Rugby Blog page on the Wales team despite yesterday’s announcement…..
Barbarians have a team announcement page though on this blog
Sums up the typically biased views we see on alleged UK-wide forums when it comes to non-‘Commonwealth 15’ teams of UK-born players
Wales team is here, published yesterday as the team was announced – https://therugbyblog.com/autumn-internationals-2016-wales-team-to-face-australia
