Aviva Premiership 2016/17 Predictions: Round 2

Aviva Trophy

Last weekend was hugely disappointing from a predictions perspective. With Gloucester 31-7 up, my home team pick was looking in great shape, and then when Sale missed that last-minute kick, it was clear we were out of luck! The betting was a shambles as well, just 1 point the wrong side on 2 out of 3 bets, but hoping for better in Round 2.

Worcester v Gloucester

Worcester made life pretty tough for Saracens in the opening half at Twickenham, but that’s clearly not enough against the champions, and they ended up losing by even more than the 28 we had predicted. That’s five Premiership defeats in a row for Worcester, and their pre-season form wasn’t exactly inspiring. Can Gloucester pick themselves up after that capitulation at Kingsholm? I’m giving them another chance. Gloucester by 2.

SuperBru Community: Gloucester by 3.88 | Paddy Power: Gloucester -1 | Discrepancy: 2.88

Sale v Harlequins

This is a tricky one to pick, and the last four fixtures between the sides have been settled by a margin of 6 points or fewer with two wins apiece. Neither side was at its best in Round 1, and home advantage is swaying me towards Sale for this one. Sale by 2.

SuperBru Community: Harlequins by 3.16 | Paddy Power: Sale -4 | Discrepancy: 7.16 – BET on Quins +4

Bath v Newcastle

George Ford was outstanding in the victory over Northampton at Franklins Gardens, and Newcastle won’t be able to live with him pulling the strings at The Rec. I can see this being pretty one-sided. Bath by 23.

SuperBru Community: Bath by 9.37 | Paddy Power: No odds at time of writing

Leicester v Wasps

It goes without saying that the Tigers won’t want to give away a 24-point headstart every week, and I can’t imagine Richard Cockerill was too happy about the first half performance at Kingsholm. They’ll be tighter this week, and desperate for a home win as they run out at Welford Road for the first time this season. Wasps looked beatable against Exeter, and I’m backing the Tigers. Leicester by 6.

SuperBru Community: Leicester by 4.81 | Paddy Power: Leicester -3 | Discrepancy: 1.81

Bristol v Northampton

Bristol ran Harlequins close at Twickenham, whilst the Saints lost at home – justification enough to pick Bristol here perhaps, but I’m going with the established Premiership side to bounce back from Round 1’s disappointment as Bristol continue to settle into the top flight. Saints by 6.

SuperBru Community: Northampton by 3.89 | Paddy Power: No odds at time of writing

Exeter v Saracens

We’re already being treated to a repeat of last season’s final, and the Chiefs will expect revenge at Sandy Park. The Champions took a while to put Worcester away last week, and Exeter should provide much tougher opposition, and in fact they are slight favourites with the bookies. That said, I’m finding it hard to pick against Sarries at the moment, so I’ve gone for a narrow away win. Saracens by 2.

SuperBru Community: Saracens by 7.29 | Paddy Power: Exeter -1 | Discrepancy: 8.29 – BET on Sarcens +1

Let me know what you think, and if you think you can do better, make sure you’re in our SuperBru league.
