Currie Cup 2014 Predictions: Round 3

Last weekend saw two sides extend their lead at the top of the Currie Cup table, but what’s in store in round three?

Game of the round: Western Province vs Lions

This game already looks like one of the most important matches of the season. Both sides have set themselves apart at the top of the table with 10 points from two games. Western Province’s margins of victory so far have been 19 and 24, the Lions’ 28 and 41.

The Lions have an imposing pack who will look to bully Province’s, whose forwards have not been their strength so far. There’s plenty of experience in both side’s ranks and also some exciting backs who will look to make the most of any space they are given.

Crucially, though, Western Province are at home. The Lions are yet to travel from Ellis Park, an imposing venue and one which rouses them to play better. In Cape Town, Western Province’s home advantage will be telling, as it was last weekend against the Bulls, when they managed a big margin of victory over the Bulls without ever really playing that well.

It’ll be significantly tighter this weekend, but expect the home side to prevail once again. Western Province by 3

Other SuperBru predictions:

Pumas vs Griquas: Pumas by 5
Bulls vs Kings: Bulls by 9
Sharks vs Cheetahs: Sharks by 6
