Blues hammer nail in reds coffin
With the Aussies having failed to grab one win against all New Zealand competition this year their fate was all but sealed when the Blues scraped together a win against the Reds on Friday.
The Reds, who to me have been a team with so much promise but under delivered yet again. No Australia team has really put their hand up this season. They have all been woeful and the only reason the Brumbies will make the play off is due to the conferencing system. Lets hope this is not a sig of things to come for the Rugby Championships due to start at the end of Super Rugby.
Take a bow Mitch Hunt
As far as memorable drop goals in Super Rugby go, there aren’t too many. However, for me, Mitch Hunt’s drop goal on Saturday might be one of the best drop goals I have ever seen, let alone Super Rugby.
I am still debating whether it was confidence or stupidity but whatever it was, Mitch Hunt kept the Crusaders unbeaten record on track. You can only admire such a kick, not just because it went over, but when you take the occasion, the distance and even the angle, its a kick that will go down in Crusaders and potentially Super Rugby as one of the best. Just in case you missed it:
Nehe is back!
The Lions were probably the last team who wanted to see Shudder’s return and this weekend showed that he is only ready for the challenge that awaits come that first test in Auckland.
We all know what class the man is made of but he showed us once again this weekend. He has the incredible ability to bounce back after a long period of time on the sidelines, and pick up exactly where he left off. His quick feet proved a headache for the Western Force and if Saturday is anything to go by then the best is yet to come.
Sekope Kepu is a beast
The Waratahs highlight reel might not have any grits and glamour but Sekope Kepu’s run this weekend will definitely be added to it.
There is not much better than a prop scoring a try or a prop having a run in open play, but when you add them together its something magical. Just in case you missed it or you want to admire his heroics once again.
Brumbies embarrass Rebels, again
It seems the only teams Australian sides can defeat is each other. Saturday was no different with the Rebels suffering another terrible loss in a season they will want to forget, quickly.
The Rebels, like the Reds, had the potential. They came close in a few games but no cigar. It went from bad to worse the Melbourne boys who mid way through the competition realised they may not be a part of the competition in 2018. Its not easy taking the news that your head is on the chopping block but lets just hope that if they are to go, they bow out of the tournament with their heads held high and put on a few performances for the Melbourne faithful to be proud of.
