Aviva Premiership Predictions: Round 22

It’s the final round of the Aviva Premiership this weekend, and here’s what I think will happen.

First up, I can see Bath winning comfortably against Newcastle, ending the season on a high as they try to give themselves a chance of reaching the playoffs – they need Gloucester or Northampton to lose which I think is unlikely, but they’d kick themselves if other results did go their way, and they hadn’t completed their end of the bargain.

I think Exeter will be determined to finish their debut Premiership season on a high, whilst I imagine that Wasps just want to finish the season.  They’ve had a dreadful run and will have one eye on the summer break, which is no way to approach a game at Sandy Park.

Gloucester should win well to set themselves up for a title challenge in the playoffs, and then slightly controversially, I’m going for a Quins victory over Saracens at the Stoop.  Fresh from the Muster-conquering efforts, they’ll be keen to maintain momentum ahead of the Amlin Challenge Cup final, whilst Sarries might give some players a rest.

In the other games, I’d expect the Tigers to beat London Irish at home, and whilst I think Northampton will overcome Leeds, I can see it being close.  Leeds are fighting for survival and a win or draw should be enough to leapfrog the Falcons, but I’d say that’s unlikely.

A losing bonus point would still see them finish at the bottom of the table on points difference, and then they’ll be cheering on the Cornish Pirates in the Championship playoff – if they win, they won’t be promoted as they don’t meet the Premiership entry criteria, and so Leeds would be given a reprieve.

Here are my SportGuru predictions – let me know what you think:

Bath v Newcastle Falcons: Bath by 19
Exeter Chiefs v London Wasps: Exeter Chiefs by 8
Gloucester Rugby v Sale Sharks: Gloucester Rugby by 17
Harlequins v Saracens: Harlequins by 5
Leicester Tigers v London Irish: Leicester Tigers by 8
Northampton Saints v Leeds Carnegie: Northampton Saints by 7

188BET of the week: Exeter to beat Wasps at 1.52
