Aviva Premiership Predictions: Round 4

I’ve been doing much better in the prediction league since a disaster in Round 1, but the Grand Slam Points are still eluding me. Here’s hoping for a full house of correct predictions in Round 4.

I’m going for three home wins and three away wins this weekend, with Quins v Exeter, Irish v Newcastle and Sarries v Saints the hardest to call in my view.

I’ve gone for Harlequins to beat Exeter, even though they’ve not won a game yet, on the basis that the Chiefs’ run has to end at some stage! Conor O’Shea will have been giving his players a particularly hard time, targeting this home match against the league newcomers as a must-win fixture. Exeter aren’t quite the unknown quantity anymore, and I think Quins will have just too much.

I often back Newcastle to win at home, but I’m going with what Sparky said in this week’s Podcast and I fancy Irish to win this one.

And finally, the big game of the weekend between Sarries and Saints which is particularly difficult to predict. Read my Key Clash Preview for some sort of justification for my prediction of Saints by 5.

Here are my Aviva Premiership Predictions for Round 4 – let me know what you think:

Bath v Sale Sharks: Bath by 13
Gloucester Rugby v London Wasps: London Wasps by 8
Harlequins v Exeter Chiefs: Harlequins by 8
Leicester Tigers v Leeds Carnegie: Leicester Tigers by 13
Newcastle Falcons v London Irish: London Irish by 8
Saracens v Northampton Saints: Northampton Saints by 5

  1. Sensible predictions. However, there are two games I reckon’ll go the other way. Saracens’ home-advantage will, I think, give them a narrow 3 point win, whilst Gloucester will be a stronger unit than when they were last at Kingsholm and will plant a couple of early tries on a struggling Wasps defence.
