British and Irish Lions team to play Western Force

Lions LogoBrian O’Driscoll will captain the Lions when they run out against the Western Force in Perth on Wednesday.

BOD partners Manu Tuilagi in the centres, whilst there is plenty of power in the pack as well.

Tour captain Sam Warburton should be fit for Saturday’s game, according to Warren Gatland, but there are concerns over Rob Kearney who has a hamstring tear – the management will consider the options and may look to replace him on the tour.

  1. Swap Phillips for Murray and that would pretty much be my backline for the tests. Very intrigued to see Tuilagi line up at 12. Roberts played well against the Baa Baas but he did have the benefit of running into an unorganized defense. I think the centre is currently the most ‘up for grabs’ positions at the moment. As all four potentials could play all, or no parts, in the Tests. With most positions it will come down to picking between two players.

  2. That’s a good looking team as well, sensible selection from Gatland having a look at pretty much everyone

  3. Great looking side which should smash the Force. There is so much strength in the squad that all the teams Gats puts out will be very strong GO GO LIONS!!!!

  4. I think that judging from saturday’s game, there is much fluidity to the centre play. Roberts was to be found outside Davies on plenty of occasions against the BaaBaa’s, so I think we could be looking at any 2 from 4 (is it 5?) rather than a bona fide 12 and 13.

Considerations also for Farrell, Bowe, and clearly North

  5. Would have rather seen Youngs (B) start as Murray as already had some game time, but given it’s a new centre partnership I can see the logic in having some familiarity at half back (and 8).

Only concern is the pairing of Croft and O’Brien may not be the best if it turns into a battle at the breakdown, not much that can be done about it with 1 7 injured and the other deserving of a rest after running his legs off in a sauna.

  6. I really like this team theres lots of test starters I think will come from this team, I’d expect Healy, Wyn-Jones, Sexton, O’Driscoll, Bowe, Halfpenny and North all to start.

  7. I’m really looking forward to watching Tuilagi and BOD playing together. Expect BOD to get on the end of any line breaks by Tuilagi. Also looking forward to seeing how Croft gets on.
