England release 12 players back to clubs

The following twelve players have been released by Martin Johnson for this weekend’s domestic fixtures, meaning they won’t be involved for England on Saturday.

There are no huge surprises, apart from Riki Flutey perhaps, but it looks as though England will pick the same team that beat Wales last week.

Nick Abendanon (Bath Rugby)
George Chuter (Leicester Tigers)
Alex Corbisiero (London Irish)
Paul Doran-Jones (Gloucester Rugby)
Phil Dowson (Northampton Saints)
Riki Flutey (London Wasps)
Charlie Hodgson (Sale Sharks)
Joe Simpson (London Wasps)
James Simpson-Daniel (Gloucester Rugby)
George Skivington (Leicester Tigers)
David Strettle (Saracens)
Joe Worsley (London Wasps)

  1. Only contentious issue is what Johnson will do with Fourie. Considering Worsley’s been sent back then it seems he’ll at least be on the bench.

  2. Cheers Hutch

Not that the team will be any surprise, though I am interested to see who makes up the back row – Wood, Haskell, Easter with Fourie on the bench, or Wood, Fourie, Easter with Haskell on the bench, or Haskell, Fourie, Easter with Wood on the bench

  3. Surely Haskell did enough to secure Fourie’s place in the starting XV. Pity he didn’t do enough to secure Dowson’s place on the bench.
