  1. Fingers crossed Youngs will provide good ball to our backs and give us a chance to show our potential (after all, we do have good players – they just never get good enough ball to do anything with it). Feel sorry for Golding and DWS as I think they both deserve a place amongst the test team. Very surprised to see Armitage on the bench!!!

  2. Finally youngs and lawes get a start, hopefully this will get us abit more ball (fingers crossed quick) now. We just need to get croft involved in the loose more and we have quite a quick looking forward pack if haskell comes on aswell. We also need some more variation in the lineoutas, our first 6 lineouts last week all went to croft, what about easter, moody, palmer and lawes this week who all get up for the clubs.

  3. The speed of possession was so much better when Youngs came on, so let’s hope that continues.

Lawes should add some much-needed dynamism to the pack, and as you say, it’s a pretty quick pack.

I wonder if Johnno would pick this pack against a team like South Africa – I think he saw Australia’s shoddy front row and thought he could risk swapping Lawes for Shaw. Let’s hope he takes his chance.

  4. How in God’s name has Armitage got on the bench? Encouraging to see Lawes and Youngs start but Easter and Hape can count themselves extremely lucky. Not seen much of the mid week games but from what I’ve heard DWS has continued his excellent form so it sounds like he’s been unlucky. Still, something to build on (until Giteau runs Hape ragged).

  5. Yep, not sure why Armitage is there. He has been dreadfully out of form – maybe Tait picked up a niggle?

I would have liked to have seen Barkley in this squad to come on for Hape after 20 mins.

  6. Barkley can count himself very unlucky, not least because he was instrumental in galvanising Bath in the second half of the season from the 12 position after Hape had played there to little or no effect in the first half of the season. But maybe Barkley took a semblance of a risk at some point and Johnno doesn’t like that.

Other than our 10-12 axis, this should for all money be a decent team. But only if they’re not strait-jacketed and are allowed to play some rugby. Fingers crossed but not hopeful.

  7. I think that’s the problem at the moment – not bad on paper, very bad on the pitch. Let’s just hope the shackles are released for the last proper outing of the season.
