The matches start drying up after the back-to-back fortnight of Champions Cup games, so now is the time to charge up the Superbru leaderboard before it’s too late.
Here are my predictions for Round 5:
Leinster v Montpellier
The French outfit have won two and lost two – the two defeats being their two away games, and they won’t fancy a trip to Dublin. Leinster by 13.
Connacht v Zebre
Not a highlight, but a Bonus Point win for Connacht might be enough to see them through, regardless of what happens next week. Connacht by 28.
Northampton v Castres
Neither team will qualify, and so I’m backing the pride of the home side to see them through. Saints by 2.
Wasps v Toulouse
A win for Wasps here would likely see them qualify, given they play Zebre in the final match, and I think they’ll do it. Wasps by 6.
Glasgow v Munster
This is a great-looking match between two teams that know each other well, and feels like a 50/50 pick, but I’m backing Munster to continue their incredible run of form and guarantee top spot in their pool. Munster by 1.
Racing Metro v Leicester
Who would have thought last year’s runners-up would be winless after four rounds? Granted it’s a very tough group, but they seem to have lost interest. Leicester by 6.
Scarlets v Saracens
Scarlets are pretty much out, and Sarries should remain unbeaten to ensure qualification with a round to spare. Saracens by 13.
Bordeaux v Clermont Auvergne
I’m going against a cardinal rule picking a French away win, but Clermont will want to qualify this week. Clermont by 4.
Toulon v Sale Sharks
I can’t see Sale getting anywhere near Toulon here. Toulon by 23.
Exeter v Ulster
Neither team is likely to qualify, so I’m backing the home side. Exeter by 2.
Which ones do you disagree with?
Our Six Nations Predictor league is open – get involved on Superbru here
Not much to disagree with, although I fancy a substantially bigger margin by Connacht and also Ulster to target a win at Exeter as they still have a chance of going through as a runner up, if they can do two bonus points wins (possible with a home game against an out of it Bordeaux the week after) 19 points might just be enough?
I think you’re wrong about Glasgow vs. Munster – I reckon Glasgow are going to get beaten by at least a couple of score. Of course I hope we’re both wrong and that Glasgow get the 5 points… I hope Racing 92 don’t just give up again, too.
I know it’s not likely, but I would love to see Sale beat Toulon. Alas I can see Sale being beaten quite heavily.
I can also see Saints going down to Casters as well. Despite having selected a strong team, I think that Castres will provide an upset.
I think the Scarlets Sarries game could be closer than 13 as well. Sarries have strangely opted to start Lozowski at 15, despite having Maitland on the bench?
Saints are at home so fancy us to be alright. French teams don’t travel well plus they pretty much have nothing to play for as the runner up spots will almost certainly go to pool2 and pool1
I meant to say that I also think Exeter have a big banana skin to avoid in Ulster.
I would love to see all the Premiership clubs win this weekend, but I think Saints and Exeter have tough matches which I think could end up as losses.
French teams are usually at their most dangerous when they have nothing to play for!!
I totally missed that Ali Williams has come out of retirement and is now playing for Racing 92! Wonder if he can still cut it at the top…
