We’ve another round of Guinness Premiership action to look forward to whilst the Six Nations takes a break, and here are my predictions for each of the matches.
Leeds Carnegie showed last week that they have the ability to fight for survival, picking up a losing bonus point against the Tigers. They travel to Edgeley Park tonight, and whilst I still fancy a home win, I think it will be close.
Bath looked fairly sharp against a poor London Irish team on Sunday, and returning to The Rec this weekend, they’ll look to build on that win. Worcester’s form in the Guinness Premiership has been pretty dreadful over the last few months, and I’ve gone for a relatively comfortable home win.
Quins were destroyed by a resurgent Gloucester team last week, and look like a different side without their internationals – particularly Danny Care and Nick Easter. The Saints are putting together a good run in the Premiership, and with Shane Geraghty at 10 and Chris Ashton on fire, I think they’ll be too good for Quins.
Leicester v Gloucester is the game of the weekend for me, and it will be a real test of how strong Gloucester’s resurgence actually is. The Tigers’ home form is difficult to argue with, so I’ve backed them for a narrow win.
Irish are another side who look very different shorn of their international stars, and they are struggling at the moment. They’ll be boosted by the return of Paul Hodgson and Steffon Armitage, but a trip up north to face the Falcons pack is not ideal, and I’m backing another home win for Newcastle.
Finally, Wasps play Sarries on Sunday, and although Saracens seem to keep on winning and they aren’t affected too much by international duty (only the England captain is missing), I’m backing a narrow home win and perhaps a performance to show his new employers what to expect from Danny Cipriani?
