Habana tipped to be star of RWC 2007

South African thunderbolt Bryan Habana is tipped by The Rugby Blog readers as the biggest star of the Rugby World Cup.  In a telling result, a Springbok tops the poll with 29% of the vote, whilst an Englishman languishes at the bottom.

A huge reversal of fortunes in just four years sees 3% of readers choosing Jonny Wilkinson as the player to watch – a far cry from the heady days of 2003 where he was the centre of attention.

Dan Carter was the second-favourite with 25%, Irish skipper Brian O’Driscoll was third with 15%, and the French sex-symbol Sebastian Chabal received 10% of the vote.

Richie McCaw (8%), Schalk Burger (6%) and even a Welshman (James Hook, 6%) are more likely to be stars of this Rugby World Cup than poor old Jonny.

Please take part in the new poll by clicking the image on the right.  Should Brian Ashton lose his job?  Is all the talk of Total Rugby founded in nothingness?  Or is he the right man, but with the wrong people around him?  Have your say…

  1. I think any ‘star-player’ will change from week to week at this point. Some names? McCaw, Carter, Larkham, Michalak, Chabal, Habana, Steyn, Matfield, Robinson
