New Zealand team named for second test against England

logoJulian Savea returns to the All Blacks side to play England this weekend in the second test of the series. Ben Smith shifts to fullback and Israel Dagg drops out of the squad with injury.

The rest of the squad remains the same as coach Steve Hansen searches for continuity. Patrick Tuipulotu, who didn’t make it on last week, has another chance to make his debut if he gets on this week. The centre partnership of Ma’a Nonu and Conrad Smith remains the same, with Malakai Fekitoa primed again to make an impact from the bench.

  1. Would have swopped Jane for Smith @ f/back as he’s played there plenty prev. Smith lkely quicker on wing too.

    Thought Vito might feature @ 8 tho. Likely later, but I’d have started with him.

    Team’s exp tho & this narrow win thing happened before v Ireland. However, the ABs will need to put no’s quicker into esp the breakdown & also @ maul. Scrum was better later in the game, but better sooner is even better. You better believe it!

    1. Are you sure? Smith has played entire season at 15 for Highlanders, while Jane has been playing on the wing for Hurricanes – Andre Taylor’s been sublime for them at fullback.

  2. Yes. Jane was originally a f/back & converted to wing where he played for the ABs. Can play both posi’s tho. See AB web site for this. As you say tho, Smith has also played f/back, but he’s the incumbent AB winger & likely a bit quicker than Jane as the latter’s over 30.
