  1. Glad to see I got the first vote in to make it a 100% 10/10 game. And for those who are wondering, I’m Irish. Scotland were outstanding in the first half, even if Ireland were sloppy. Ireland were terrific for pretty much the whole second half, and Scotland had serious guts to hang in there. Amazing game of rugby, and purely as a fan I’m really happy for Laidlaw and Scotland.

  2. That was exhausting and extremely frustrating in the second half – attack, you fools! Great game, though. Would not have begrudged Ireland the win. My gf was taking my heart rate at various points through the game, and it hit 148! Also, Jackson’s try was a double movement, right?

    1. I initially thought so… It could’ve gone either way – to be honest if Double Movement is going to be a rule than it has to be strict and ‘cheek’ like that has to be stopped.

  3. Thought Jackson reached out which is fine

Great game but Ireland’s defence was appailng and their attack one dimensional

The games against NZ flattered both teams and Ireland certainly aren’t as good as has been made out

    1. Disagree greatly. Ireland’s defence was weak, but that has a lot to do with an inexperienced 13 on Ireland’s side and a red-hot 15 on Scotland’s. Ireland beat the ABs with Payne at 13, and I’d be inclined to think the same would have happened to Scotland had he been in the side. He is the glaring omission from Ireland, not Sexton, at present. But Ringrose will come good in time, given his Leinster performances. As for attack, it was inexcusably slow and rusty, but it too will improve as the competition continues – it was already growing by the 2nd half. And accusing it of being one-dimensional takes away from Scotland’s defensive commitment and performance in the 1st half in particular. So while this was not a good Irish side on the day, saying that the side is clearly over-hyped at this point is unfounded. Only if they continue to struggle over the next few weeks will the criticism be justified, and I don’t see that happening yet.

  4. Not sure why nobody mentions Laidlaw as a possible Lions captain. Perhaps not the quickest or the best passer but tactically aware, good at driving his team and completely unflappable under pressure is not a bad package.

  5. (Almost);Completely off topic I would suggest that the two most likely/touted/expected B&I Lions hookers didn’t do themselves any favours. The last couple of times I’ve seen Best play he’s seemed to lack power offensively and defensively; LCD ran over/through him 3 times last week for Exeter and Hartley….Well is just Hartley
