  1. I expect – Mako, George, Sink, Itoje, Lawes, Wilson, Curry, Billy, Youngs, Farrell, May, Slade, Manu, Daly, Brown
One lock and one wing to miss out for the matchday 23, Launchbury and Ashton.

    1. Not bad.
Not sure if Tui is ready yet but with a lack of options at 12 with Teo out he would add option to straighten the line.
I would also start Williams & Nowell and bring SInkler & Ashton on as a finishers but pretty close to my thoughts on the team

  2. I don’t think we will go back to Ford/Farrell again now, I think the evolution from that is done, although agree re lack of currency at12. I reckon it will be Slade at 12 with Tui at 13, Daly, May and Brown filling the rest.

  3. I’ve had a change of heart: what is the aim, to win in Dublin or to win in Japan? For the long term potential I would go with Farrell, Tuilagi, Daly.

That combination has great balance. It is similar to Barritt/Tompkins or Lozowski at Saracens which should help Farrell, and it would be just as good with Ford at 10. Also it would allow us to develop a consistent style of play with the pool of players at 13 having similar attributes – Daly, Joseph, Marchant. It would however require back up to Tuilagi and Te’o by developing Ollie Lawrence as a 12.

    1. Surely the aim should be to win the 6N and the World cup? What better platform to launch our WC plan from than being the reigning champs in the NH?
We don’t have the time now to be tinkering with alternate strategies and playing clever buggers.
I don’t have a good feeling about what Ed is up to , having seen this squad and considering how many ponderables we still seem to have. Not having a go at you Charlie, just deeply concerned about where we are going!

  4. First time i’ve looked at one of EJ’s squads and thought “Piss off back to Aus and don’t come back”
TWO genuine flankers, Cole dropped, I am disgusted. Ireland by twenty five.

  5. I am really unsure about Daly.He has had a poor season and wants to leave his club that is struggling. We seem to be agreed about Brown at 15.For me May and Ashton on the wings both in great form Manu 12 Slade 13.
2nd row definitely Launchers and Maro

  6. You don’t think he has a plan to play Hughes and BV alongside Curry do you? That leaves Wilson to cover 6,7,8 alongside a lock as back up 6….hope not but it is EJ!! Of course, there is Nowell to play 7 too.. Wonder what the odds are on that!

    1. Hence my anger. i’m glad you noticed the imbalance Stuart. Everyone else seems perfectly happy/unaware of the ridiculousness of this selection.

      1. I was just about to voice my usual exasperation at the inclusion of four locks and just 2 flankers, bhut I saw you beat me to it Acee.
I can only echo you – utterly ridiculous.
Plus I’d like to thrown in that the Telegrapy is rumouring Daly to still be at full back. Which if true shall cause me to throw my hands in the air and swear lots.
BTW – am less concerned by Sinckler at tighthead as others seem to be. He did well in the autumn against a couple of very good scrummaging teams. More concerned by Vunipola starting. I’d rather see Moon start with Sinckler
