As part of the RFU’s Play On campaign, the ‘O2 Rugby Reunion’ concluded at the weekend with a touch rugby tournament at Kneller Hall, under the shadow of Twickenham stadium.
Designed to attract former players of the game who may have withdrawn from the sport through injury or circumstance, the event hosted the finals of their regional events in Newcastle, Bristol, Coventry, Bournemouth and Manchester.
Assisted by the folks from Premiership Touch Rugby, many rugby fans came down to grab a slice of the action – some who had previously registered on the Facebook group. Alongside the matches taking place there was the appearance of several EPS members including Ugo Monye, Dave Strettle, Paul Doran-Jones, Dave Atwell & Riki Flutey.
There was live music, a BBQ, the O2 Angels offering massages and face painting aswell as a couple of Q & A sessions with the England boys where people could win shirts, caps and more. I managed to wrestle the mic off Ugo Monye to commentate on the final which saw some impressive play by both finalists Sayons & Tumeke and John Worthington of O2 was delighted with the success of the day.
