The Rugby Championship Predictions 2012: Round 2

SuperBruThe Rugby Championship enters the second week with the reverse fixtures of last weekend’s matches. Here are my SuperBru picks for Round 2.

New Zealand v Australia

The game in Australia was closer than I thought it would be, but also a lower standard than expected. The All Blacks still won though, and I’d expect it to be even more comfortable this weekend.

Quade Cooper returns at fly-half, but the Kiwis know how to wind him up, and they’ll be targeting the 10/12 channel with big runners.

Over 98% of players on SuperBru have predicted an All Blacks victory, and the average pick is New Zealand by 12. My own pick is New Zealand by 15.

Argentina v South Africa

This historic Test match in Mendoza should be a great occasion for the home nation, but I don’t fancy their chances against the Springboks. Their lack of a kicker cost them dearly in the away fixture last week, and they have now lost fly-half Juan Martin Hernandez as well.

The Boks’ injury list continues to grow, with Bismarck du Plessis brandishing the latest sick note, but they should still have enough strength to see off the Pumas challenge.

The average SuperBru prediction for this one is South Africa by 13, with 98.44% backing the Boks. My own prediction is South Africa by 12.

  1. Home advantage – including bonkers crowd/atmosphere – for the Argies to cut the points difference significantly I reckon. SA should definitely win but I reckon there’ll be less than a converted try between them.

  2. If Derick Hougaard shifts to the wing again and Ruan Pienaar comes on expect a try. They got too close last week not to get the bonus point.

  3. Yea great to see argentina performing so well and they really took on th S . A. forward pack. They will become a major rugby nation in a few years if not already which is great for the game in south america. They are even ahead of italy at this stage i think, but probably need 2 teams in some kind of professional structure to really develop more.
