Wasps snatch crucial losing bonus point before Newcastle decider

A disallowed Sam Vesty try meant that London Wasps picked up a vital losing bonus point away at The Rec, finishing the match 17-12 despite being outscored by the home side by three tries to none. What it means is that Wasps sit 11th in the table on 32 points with a points difference of -135, whilst Newcastle are on 28 points with a points difference of -182.

Therefore, Newcastle must beat Wasps with a four try bonus point in the final game to stay up. What’s more, they must not allow Wasps to pick up a losing bonus point. Lastly, if they are unable to win scoring four tries, then they must win by 48 points.

Is this too much for Newcastle to do? Or can they pull off a miracle?

  1. Wouldn’t they have to win by 24pts as every point Newcastle knock off their tally also adds one to the Wasps difference?

Wasps will probably do enough by playing a limited gameplan and being v aggressive in defence. I hope so. It’ll be a hell of an occasion.
