Champions Cup Semi-Finals Confirmed

Leinster Rugby

The Champions Cup semi-final lineups have been confirmed, with Saracens hosting Munster and defending champions Leinster entertaining Toulouse.

There were two away wins in the quarter-finals this weekend. Munster overcame Edinburgh in the Scottish capital, whilst Racing were beaten at home by Top14 leaders Toulouse.

Leinster edged past Irish rivals Ulster in a tense affair, whilst Saracens thrashed Glasgow in London.

The semi-final fixtures are:

Saracens v Munster, 20 April, 15:15
Leinster v Toulouse, 21 April, 15:15

What were the main talking points from the weekend?

Which team do you think will lift the trophy?

  1. As a big Sarries fan I would love to see us reach the final and lift the trophy, but after seeing Barritt being stretchered off, that task seems much tougher. He was at the heart of everything on Saturday and if he is set to miss out on the semi-final, it will be a very tough ask to beat Munster.
I went to the Ricoh the last time we played Munster in a European semi-final and was gutted to be narrowly beaten in what was a cracking game of rugby. I hope this game will be as hard fought as that one.

The Racing-Toulouse game was great and I think Racing only have themselves to blame. Some of their decision making was bad and it let them down. Toulouse looked good with 14 men and were still the better team, but Racing should be feeling pretty disappointed with themselves.

Edinburgh have played some great rugby in the competition, but beating Munster at this stage is always a tough ask with their pedigree and experience.

Leinster maybe counting themselves a little lucky after their last minute win over Ulster, and I think they will have a really hard game against a very strong Toulouse side, looking to run the ball and play some great rugby.

The question I have is where are the Welsh? Grand slam winners on the international stage, but very disappointing at club level!!

  2. Stockdale will be having nightmares about his non-grounding! Overall a really exciting weekend of European rugby. I still think Sarries will be too strong for Munster IMO. Leinster I suspect will also hold out being on ‘home’ country soil but I suspect Toulouse will go their with confidence so should make for a cracking SF.

  3. Talking point? Stockdale. Only saw most of the Sat fixtures, so can only comment thereon. 2 home Semi wins? Never know, esp @ this stage of the comp. The Saracens game was a bit of a yawn after the initial Glaswegian opener. Can’t fathom a side, particularly with a Kiwi S Rugby experienced coach, kicking 2 pen goals when it was obvious early on that they needed tries. Less & less posession, territory with Saracens all R1, so the Jocks kick it away !? Now where have I heard that one before? Rennie seems to be going down the Eddie Jones route, gauging by Sat’s viewing. Ulster, Leinster? Different kettle of carp. An actual contest, in which Ulster surprised (me anyway) with their all court game, skill & will right to the end. Unlucky for them in the end though. Leinster might need to shape up some next time. But we’ll see.
