What do you mean the main talking points?
1. Ireland won – Result!
2. End of discussion!
So you’re a Paddy now? What’s the ‘D’ stand for Alex? Simplistic as ever.
Besides it’s said that you always criticise those whom you fear the most.
Lucky the AB’s ain’t playing England, huh?
Enjoy while you can. Beware the backlash though.
Don, you are not doing anything to help the reputation of Kiwi fans. This is not an acceptable response to Alex’s post, lashing out without provocation.
Thought it wouldn’t take long Don!
Did you enjoy the game?
AlexD
That why you posted? And faster out of the blocks than Usain Bolt! Expect it made your year.
But what’s new. Only been hearing this sorta stuff since 1972! But then with a 75% loss record v NZ, I’d likely feel like you & your’s too.
How long do wanna bet that the AB’s will ‘lie down’ then? As long as from 2003 to 2015 perhaps?
Is that a picture of George North in a Wales shirt on a rate the match between Ireland and New Zealand article???
Don’t know what you’re talking about?!
Cheeky :-)
Fantastic result for Ireland and rugby in general.
Assume the ABs had a stomach bug or food poisoning? I mean they weren’t beaten fair and square were they?
Hah. I’m waiting to see what excuse the Kiwi superfans come up with.
I imagine it’ll be the fact that they were missing Whitelock and Retallick and that it was in Chicago and that’s a really long way, or something
Or that the ref was clearly biased as he actually penalised them a number of times and gave them a yellow card for crying out loud! Somebody clearly didn’t explain to Monsieur Reynal how to referee the ABs
Pablito
Can’t decide who has the bigger chip, you or Benjit.
Interesting that YOU felt it necessary to point out a couple of realities though, but no more so than in seeing how England do in the upcoming. The Aussies looked pretty tasty didn’t you think? Or maybe you think that England only have to turn up to win it eh?
Perhaps you ought to have held yr water before giving it large. But then that would have meant that you had some wisdom.
Do you imagine for 1 minute that because the AB’s fell down for the 1st time after on 18 back to backs, 2 WC’s & being the most successful team in sporting history, they won’t get back up in Doblin?
A record you can only wet dream about.
Makes you seem kind of more small minded than Donald Trump, don’t you think?
Ah Don. I wondered how long it would take your All Black Superfan Radar to pick up on a couple of tongue in cheek comments. And how mental you would go in response.
The answer was – longer than I expected and very.
Must have been tough to watch your team downed by opposition who hadn’t beaten them in 111 years of trying.
A touch embarassing for you that, after your constant witterings on here about the vast superiority of the All Blacks over the Northern Hemisphere, they then go and lose their very first match against a supposedly greatly inferior Northern team.
Imagine they lose the next one to Ireland as well. Quelle horreur! What will you do?
Still at least they’re not playing England this tour right?
PS – interesting to note that they used exactly the excuse I predicted. Didn’t see the one about Ardie Savea on the wing coming though
PPS – I think you’ll find that the most successful international rugby team is that of Cyprus, which means that the All Blacks aren’t even the most successful team in rugby, let alone the entirety of sporting history…
PPPS – love the references to Donald Trump and Anthony Weiner. Look at you being all topical. Well done!
Pablito
More tongue in cheek? Yeah right. Like initially?
Yr monologue was a mite tooooo long for my comments not to have bothered you.
Bit pathetic that you STILL denigrate the AB’s with yr Cyprus (who?) comment.
Why would I be bothered about a SINGLE loss in 18. These things happen. No one can win 4ever, but it’s not if you fall down occasionally, but whether you get up again.
And indeed we shall see in Mk II.
So it’s a legitimate loss then? No excuses? Full credit to Ireland? Better team won on the day?
Or do we have to wait and see what happens this weekend? Only based on the next result will we be able to judge if the score was actually correct in the last one?
Benjit
Soo predictably defensive! You ‘sound’ like Woodward, who also has a chip!
Does it make you feel better about yr v NZ 75% loss ratio by riding on the back of someone else’s team to do it for you? You’re sadder then Anthony Weiner.
And it might have been better to have waited for the 2nd match before putting the boot in. Wonder (not) if you’ll you be so magnanimous when the All Blacklash nxt up reverses this green speed bump.
No brainer. You’ll be AWOL.
Is no one going to mention that as a TV spectator we never got to see the first two try groundings? Seems a little strange t me, especially as the first try by NZ got scrutinized to death, even theough after the first look it was clear that the player had grounded the ball properly.
Dont get me wrong here, Ireland played outstanding rugby and were always able to push the All Blacks back, but I still like to see the playing ground on an equal basis.
The run had to end as well and what a cracker of a way to go. I was in an Irish pub and the reaction was supreme and always friendly which is huge credit to Ireland and great for a rugby fan to see. Makes the return match in 2 weeks even more interesting..
The first try had quite a few things to check which is why it took a while. Did it go backwards off an Ireland player or did Read knock it on? (face doesn’t count so try stands). Did Moala pick it up cleanly or was there a knock on there (close but no)?
With the Ireland first try the ref asked “any reason why I can not award the try” which suggest he had seen (or was confident of) the grounding. I couldn’t see it on the replays so had the question been different the try may not have been awarded.
For the second Ireland try the grounding was obvious
Fortheloveofrugby
Bit late I know, but as a matter of interest, I take it that you’re English?
yes why whats got you on your high horse this time
oh I agree -it is time that the dead ball areas are set up to facilitate couches/ sofa’s for us TV spectators.
For the love of rugby -Give us a chance to get down and dirty and see first hand those dirty mitts on the ball.
And get a gazillion cameras in there..and one of those under water scuba models too
The strange thing about the first try TMO was everyone was looking at how the ball went forward off Read in lead up to try. Officials ignored Read’s tackle.
The best game of rugby I’ve seen for a while. Outstanding effort by both teams. For Ireland to get an excellent lead and for NZ to get so close to catching it, only for Ireland to pull away again.
Slikk levels on show by Ireland’s front five were outstanding, but the whole Irish team should get 10s!!
The game had everything, running rugby, crunching first up tackles, development of space, tension as New Zealand close the points gap, Ireland with enough belief, steel and guile to see the match out win a brilliant win.
Benjit
I’d say it didn’t count as a real victory aswell. Neither England’s victory in 2012 nor this one!
Perhaps just as in the novovirus of 2012 the Ab’s had a bad experience with surf an’ Turf or something in Chicago!
What would be great is if the Irish repeat it!
Bloody good craic at the ab’s expense and that’s from a sassenach with a bit of Cork in ‘im!
From what I’ve seen so far, most of the Kiwi press has been (in some cases slightly grudgingly!) complimentary of Ireland’s stellar performance and largely has graciously admitted that the better team won. However every single article also managed to mention the ABs selection crisis at lock and, perhaps more bafflingly, the injuries to the backs during the game that resulted in Ardie Savea on the wing, as if that was somehow unfair specifically to the ABs…
I enjoyed the post-match interview with Hansen, and some underhand excuses:
‘We’ve got no excuses at all. People might point to the fact that we’ve got a second row injury crisis, and that affected our lineout and set piece, but credit to Ireland.’
‘I thought Ireland were really smart, especially when we were forced to put Ardie on the wing after yet more injuries. I mean he’s a great player, but he’s not a wing, but Ireland were really smart attacking that channel.’
No excuses!
Well, we’ll see nxt Sat with the ‘A’ team out won’t we?
Still got that inferiority complexed chip I see.
QUITE!
My case still stands then! The southern hemisphere is notoriously fickle when it comes to ‘manning up’ and acknowledging an opponent’s superior prowess on the day (as with their ‘travelling band’ of supporters – expats included)
Yes ‘manning up’ includes winning on the day (something they’re usually very good at) but the bit they haven’t managed (perhaps have started to if your comments are correct) is to be GRACIOUS IN DEFEAT! The latter is arguably a taller ask as we all know as current and ex-rugby players (i would even go further and say as ‘adults in life’ actually)
I wonder how many people on here are prepared to PUBLICLY agree with this! I WONDER!
Glass houses and stones

No one rugby nation can point the finger at any other and say bad loser / bad winner as there are always a subset of fans that give the others a bad name and the media is a law unto itself. Genereally speaking most of the Kiwi’s I know have said Ireland play fantastically and totally deserved the win. Yes they have their thoughts about how AB’s can bounce back but that’s something different to the whole failing to acknowledge you were beaten by a better team thing
I think that’s too simplistic though gracious in sentiment.
I have worked with dozens of ex-pats (Sanzar) over here and the REALITY is different!
I will attempt to make some excuses for their attitude and it IS an ‘attitudinal thing’.
1. They have more of an ingrained winner’s mentality which transfers into a greater winning streak. They are simply NOT used to losing! Therefore (and i hope the logic of this strikes a chord perhaps with our antipodean cousins reading this) They have had less opportunity/time to learn how to lose GRACIOUSLY! (That’s a complement BTW before people start screaming)
My brother (english) worked as a ‘rentapom’ in Sydney Grammar School for a year and came back with stories of how more intense and fanatical the boys were at sports. It was at another level!
So yes i do think they (very pejorative sounding i know) have further to go with the whole ‘experience and gamut of losing!’
Lets say it how it is for a change rather than relentlessly pursuing the politics of niceness, political correctness and cotton wool loonyism. We are after all still in a brave new post-Brexit world!
‘Rentapom’ is an endearing term used in the Aussie education system to describe us brits not some nefarious night time activity.
Just to set that one straight before anyone asks!
