Aviva Premiership 2016/17 Predictions: Round 3

Aviva Trophy

Last weekend’s predictions were pretty reasonable, picking Sale to beat Quins and just missing the Wasps upset and the Worcester draw. This week looks like a good chance of a full house and Grand Slam Points.

Sale v Gloucester

Sale don’t tend to lose at home, but did lose this fixture in Salford at the end of April. Having seen off Quins last weekend, they’ll be confident of back to back wins, and I think they’ll get it.

Gloucester have had a pretty frustrating start to the season, and it’s going to get worse tonight. Sale by 8.

SuperBru Community: Sale by 5.29 | Paddy Power: Sale -5 | Discrepancy: 0.29

Bath v Worcester

Bath have started the season in emphatic fashion, with George Ford on fire at fly-half. A huge 99.45% of people on SuperBru have picked them to beat Worcester, and I can’t see any other result at the Rec.

Newcastle were thumped last weekend, and I suspect it will be a similar case for Worcester. Bath by 23.

SuperBru Community: Bath by 13.38 | Paddy Power: Bath -15 | Discrepancy: 1.62

Exeter v Harlequins

Quins travel to the West Country having not beaten Exeter home or away since a 1-point win in 2014, and last season’s 24-62 drubbing at the Stoop will not have gone down well.

I can’t see them winning this one, despite the home side starting the season with back-to-back defeats. Exeter by 7.

SuperBru Community: Exeter by 2.74 | Paddy Power: Exeter -7 | Discrepancy: 4.26 – BET on Quins +7

Saracens v Northampton

Sarries are just too good at the moment, and nobody can live with them, even without Owen Farrell and George Kruis. They blew Exeter away last weekend, and sit top of the table with maximum points.

I’ve gone a bit bold on the margin, but I just can’t see Northampton getting anything out of this game at Allianz Park, nor anyone else for that matter. Sarries by 18.

SuperBru Community: Saracens by 10.49 | Paddy Power: Saracens -12 | Discrepancy: 1.51

Wasps v Bristol

Not many people expected Wasps to win at Welford Road last week, and they are looking strong even without some of their big-name signings.

There’s only going to be one winner in this match, and the question is by how many? Wasps by 23.

SuperBru Community: Wasps by 15.45 | Paddy Power: Wasps -19 | Discrepancy: 3.55 – BET on Bristol +19

Newcastle v Leicester

The Falcons were on the wrong end of a hiding last weekend, and were a missed kick away from losing their first game too.

I fancy the Tigers to bounce back from disappointing their home fans last weekend, and I just don’t really rate Newcastle. Leicester by 18.

SuperBru Community: Leicester by 6.26 | Paddy Power: Leicester -4 | Discrepancy: 2.26

    1. Agreed, seems to be a fairly easy set of picks this weekend, was slightly surprised to see that the Superbru community was in favour of Gloucester, must be marginal and a 50:50 game on there! He’ll need a few of those margins to come up trumps to make decent progress up the table though…
