Alex Corbisiero is leaving England’s tour of Argentina to join the British & Irish Lions as cover for injured prop Cian Healy.
The London Irish loose head departs today from Salta – where England play the first of two Tests against the Pumas on Saturday – on the first leg of his trip to Australia.
Cian Healy left the field on a stretcher during the Lions game against the Force and it looked like a potentially tour-ending injury. Healy has also been cited for an alleged biting incident during the game.
What are your thoughts? Is Corbisiero the right man to replace Healy?
I noted this on another thread, but worth repeating here in a different context.
I watched teh England v CONSUR game on Sunday. Corbisiero cam on at around the hour, straight into a dominant scrum (for Marler).
It went down, he was penalised. Next two scrums exactly the same, with the third, he received a yellow card for persistant offence. Marler cam on, scrum stayed up, and England went forward.
Irony – I doubt very much as he trudged off, he was expecting to be on the next plane to Australia!
That said; the ref was at fault. I like Corbisiero, he is strong in teh tight and very active in the loose. It is tough on Grant (and Paul James), and I would have gone for Sheridan BUT i think he will do well.
I think he was a little unlucky for Corbs in that match. That last collapse was his fault, but I don’t think the others were.
Wouldn’t mind seeing Grant get a call up and Sheridan is still a great player in the tight and loose. Prop is an injury prone position though so it wouldn’t surprise me to see someone called up
Anyone got any thoughts on who could/should replace Corbs in the England squad? Obviously Marler will be first choice for the tests, but come the autumn I suspect he will have fallen some way down the pecking order, especially the way Vunipola is playing.
Is Matt Mullan on Tour? If not, perhaps Nathan Catt at Bath – he seems to be well talked of, and has come through the England age groups.
