15. Israel Folau: 7
We’re still waiting for him to really cut loose but he won the battle of the full backs without doubt. His kicking was mostly accurate and helped heap the pressure onto the hosts and, whilst he was well-shackled in general, the menace was there.
14. Adam Ashley-Cooper: 6
Mr reliable as always didn’t put a foot wrong but wasn’t able to always impress with the ball in hand. Solid in the air.
13. Tevita Kuridrani: 5.5
A bit of a disappointment in the Wallaby backline. Struggled to find space in attack and never looked comfortable trying to handle the threat of Jonathan Joseph, either.
12. Matt Giteau: 8.5
Dovetailed beautifully with Foley and England had no answer for the overload of creativity in the midfield. Giteau brought a level of calm to the middle of the park and created so much uncertainty for defenders as he picked off his runners with guile and precision. Deserved his try at the end.
11. Rob Horne: 5
Unfortunately we didn’t see what Horne could do as he was forced off with an arm injury after just 10 minutes… although Beale caused carnage in his place.
10. Bernard Foley: 9.5
A phenomenal performance. This year he has flapped at times, but he was imperious on Saturday. His decision making and control were top notch, his finishing was first rate and his kicking – which had been called into question – was not far off flawless. Loses half a mark for missing a tackle on Watson, but otherwise a near perfect fly-half display. Man of the match.
9. Will Genia: 6
Still doesn’t quite look like the player of four years ago and struggled to make things happen himself, but he gave Foley a reliable platform – which was all he needed. Worked hard in defence, too.
1. Scott Sio: 6.5
Had a ding-dong battle with Dan Cole in the scrum, which probably ended in a score draw, and got through a mountain of work in the loose.
2. Stephen Moore: 6
Part of a winning scrum effort but the line out started to wobble a bit in the second half. Still, a gnarly and aggressive display from a man who is proving to be a strong leader, despite looking like humpty-dumpty.
3. Sekope Kepu: 7.5
Marmalised Joe Marler in the scrum in a display which stunned the Twickenham crowd – but it wasn’t all just grunt. His offload in the build up to Foley’s first try was magnificent and kept the move going.
4. Kane Douglas: 8
Brutal. In a game where the Aussie engine room was supposed to be bullied in the tight, it was Douglas who was administering the metaphorical wedgie on Saturday night. Brilliantly mobile and aggressive around the park, his relentless work at ruck time was a key reason for the Wallabies getting such quick ball.
5. Rob Simmons: 7
Like Douglas he put in a big shift in the engine room and didn’t take a backward step in the close quarter stop. Line out ran pretty well under him in the first half although it started to wobble later on.
6. Scott Fardy: 7.5
The Wallabies’ unsung hero has finally managed to get some of the praise he has deserved as he grafted his face off. Busy on the carry, in the tackle, hitting rucks – and he also grabbed himself a turnover to break the Pooper monopoly.
7. Michael Hooper: 8
Embodied the Wallaby dominance by getting everywhere on the park with such energy. Doesn’t have Pocock’s accuracy but the chaos he brings is so disruptive to the opposition and he was a key reason that England only ever seemed to be playing off slow ball.
8. David Pocock: 9
England’s worst fears were realised and it just goes to show that knowing what’s coming is very different to actually stopping it. Pilfered the ball three times and always at important points, when England looked like they might be building momentum.
Replacements: 7
A bit of a mixed bag – Beale played most of the game and was electric, playing a part in Foley’s tries, whilst Phipps was all over the place when he came on, chucking the ball on the ground several times.

Didn’t think much of Kane Douglas previously. Do now
As for Foley, the Aussie debate over whether to play him or Cooper has not been dis-similar to the one here over Farrell or Ford – if anything the discussions and argument on forums and the like have been more vociferous,
On Saturday, Foley showed Farrell and Ford what the correct response is to having your place and ability questioned – play such a blinder that all the naysayers are stunned into silence.
Even accepting the Aussie pack had us under the cosh, Foley was absolutely excellent
Australia have announced themselves as genuine contenders for the title. This was, by some distance, the best performance of the World Cup to date
As an Englishman I have to say it was embarassing to see JL get MOM. I know it doesn’t really matter but credit where it’s due. The whole Aussie team should have got it!
I agree with Teecee- as a English/Welshman!
