European Champions Cup 2016/17: Round 6 Predictions

Champions Cup Predictions

Here are my Superbru picks for Round 6 of the Champions Cup, where the quarter-final lineups will be confirmed.

Castres v Leinster
Leinster have already guaranteed qualification, but they will want to win to ensure a home quarter-final. All French away trips are tough, but I think they’ll do it. Leinster by 4.

Montpellier v Northampton
This should be straightforward for the home side, with the Saints resting a few players – but not so many that they get in trouble. Montpellier by 18.

Clermont Auvergne v Exeter
A similar story here, and the home side just looks way too strong for an Exeter team with little motivation to win this one. Clermont by 23.

Ulster v Bordeaux
Nothing at stake in this one. Ulster by 16.

Sale Sharks v Scarlets
Another dead rubber, going with the home side but only just. Sale by 2.

Saracens v Toulon
That away victory in Round 1 remains one of the finest European performances. Can they back it up at Allianz Park? They took their foot off the gas last weekend and nearly lost to the Scarlets, but I think they’ll be pumped up for this one and should win. Saracens by 4.

Leicester v Glasgow
The Warriors should sneak through as a runner-up if they win at Welford Road, and given their dominant performance in the first round, it wouldn’t be a huge shock if they do. The Tigers are in a bit of disarray, and it’s a good chance for Glasgow. Glasgow by 2.

Munster v Racing Metro
The two sides met in Paris just a fortnight ago, with Munster winning by 25 points away from home. How many can they win by at Thomond Park against an understrength Racing? Let’s go for the same again. Munster by 25.

Toulouse v Connacht
The Irish side just need one Match Point to guarantee qualification from a tough group, or they need to stop their hosts scoring 4 tries for a Bonus Point. It should be fun to watch with the home side having to score tries, and I can see them getting to 3 and not quite making it. Toulouse by 11.

Zebre v Wasps
The Italian side fired their coach earlier this week, and the disorganised Zebras now face a lethal-looking Wasps side and it will get ugly. Wasps by 63.

Are there any you disagree with?

  1. Exeter have too much pride to go down easily at Clermont. They might lose by a few but not by 23.Sale can’t seem to win lately and I fancy Scarlets to sneak a win. I don’ t think Sarries took their foot off the gas last week. Scarlets played really well and even Sarries considerable resources have been stretched to their limits by injuries. I think Toulon may just get home in a really tight game, dependent on who Sarries have available. Toulouse/Connacht should be a cracker.

    1. Not at home their not. I think we will have to be on top of are game to get a win, anything less and it will be failure again

      1. just speaking at halftime and glasgow already ahead 31-0 lol , teams like leicester and zebre should not be in this competition

  2. I have to say, TRB has often underestimated Glasgow quite naively, and here is the perfect example! I never doubted Glasgow winning Handsomely with a Bonus Point for a second, Glasgow fan or not!
