  1. I remember the Irish fan insulting me when I said Irland will be smashed by Argentina. For sure he will hide himself quite deep now. Happy for Argentina the best team won

      1. No worries I just thought you were a bit too much calling me a sore looser only because I was not convinced by Ireland so far. At least you proved me wrong I thought u would hide. Enjoy the rest of the games. Peace

  2. Superb display by Argentina today. Truly well done.

Ireland were always behind and their ‘come back’ proved to be short lived.

I thought when I saw the Puma forwards in tears it would be a great victory.

Amazed that the ITV commentators tried to blame a few injuries for Ireland’s demise.

A fully SH set of semis then??

  3. Wow! Thought it could go either way. Didn’t expect this. NH rugby needs a serious rethink. We can produce teams hard to beat, but can’t seem to produce them to win them. Scotland our last hope. Cmon the Scots.

PS RFU you may want to reconsider your approach to Schmidt!

  4. Northern hemisphere teams have fallen behind again with the gap widening!
Irish very spirited but that was ultimately all. A good ‘Craic’ as they say.
Argentina unfortunately showed they had more ‘cojones’! should come as no real surprise since they joined the tri-nations (the skills, organisation, structure and attacking flair is going to rub off)
Back to the drawing board for the Celtic nations unfortunately!

    1. ‘Back to the drawing board for the Celtic nations’ ???

      Really????

After Wales v SA and Aus v Scotland. I think not.

Drawing boards aplenty for Ireland, France and England for certain.

2 coaching teams going to be looking for new jobs

    2. “Argentina unfortunately showed they had more ‘cojones’! ”
Bing AlexD. Ireland were like a deer in the headlights for the first 20 minutes, and the Argies capitalised on that. It was the kind of spirited fightback Ireland are capable of but a one man army created it all – Luke Fitzgerald! – the one Irish player who definitely had ‘cojones’.

Tactically, Ireland played DIRECTLY into the Argies hands. Going heavy through the centre and leaving the channels exposed. Joe Schmidt met his match, regardless of injuries and performances.

  5. Totally agree Staggy. It just feels like the NH sides are great competitors but don’t have the steel to go all,the way. I really think the only way to get to their level is to play them more often or start sending European players on player exchange with the Super Teams—- left with an overwhelming feeling of inevitability.

    1. If it was only steel they were lacking I wouldn’t be concerned but the running and handling skills of Argentina are a joy to watch and far ahead of anything I’ve seen from a NH team in this tournament. New Zealand and Australia are probably even better (the last Aus performance notwithstanding).

  6. Baring a miracle from Scotland, the only NH side to beat one of the big 3 SH sides in this RWC will be Japan! Maybe we should let them into the 6 Nations? :-P

      1. I’ve got no sympathy for France. Their woeful performance against the AB’s would have only made Argentina more confident against Ireland, and they certainly were confident.

    1. To all effects, “Japan” is a SH team, because they have al least 10 kiwis, or Pacific Islanders in their team. Argentina play with 31 players born and raised in Argentina.

  7. Argentina were superb good luck in the semis Ireland you canbe proud of your team iwish I could be proud of mine the England shirt is next to the Jimmy Saville shirt at the back of the wardrobe.
    Great Rugby

  8. Epic game. Was surprised how poorly Arg were rated for win before hand especially when last night put Ireland’s win against France into perspective. Ireland have been pedestrian since the end of the 6 Ns and their genius coach is nothing of the sort. He’s decent but the way the Irish talked about his “power plays” and his approach of “keeping their hand secret” turned out to all be BS. His genius amounts to giving it to Sexton to kick it up or across and it all collapsed when Sextons groin went. Ironic given the way we were supposed to be the ones with the worst depth.

Arg were brilliant. Direct. Balanced. Superb skills. Lost their head a bit for 20 mins there but regained it and ended up dishing out a hammering.

Yep, NH sides well second best. In my personal opinion, and no doubt some will differ, Wales are the best of the 6 nations sides given how much closer we came against these SH sides. Close isn’t good enough but I’m taking some tiny amount of consolation from it (plus the emergence of some class looking youngsters).

    1. Ha ha. 20 mins in and it now looks like Scotland are going to make me eat my words. I really hope they do. Aus looking wobbly under pressure?

      1. Don’t worry I’m eating mine two expected Scotland to get hammered and here they go and lose by 1pt.

My wife is a Scot and her stepdad are here neither seem phased kinda like expectancy and just happy they got close. On the other hand I’m still crushed after the Wales loss

        1. Gutted for the Scots. They stepped up the most of the NH teams, for the simple reason …

…that they were basically robbed by Joubert in broad daylight.

Chin up Scotland. You should be playing the Argies, and I think you would beat them. Ireland made them look better than they are with inept defending. Consistency is still a problem with Ireland as ever.

  9. When the best side in the Northern Hemisphere is thumped in the British Isles by Argentina it can only be seen as humiliating for all the six nations sides.

    1. Conversely the current title holders of the Rugby Championship came within a (ginger) hair’s breadth of being knocked out by the worst side in this years 6 Nations. So it’s not all doom and gloom for us NHers. Next year’s 6N has the potential of being mighty interesting….

      1. Yes my comment was made before that last game! However when you look at the tournament as a whole and consider it was played in England and Wales, it does raise a lot of questions.

    1. Argentina were better and deserved the win. Ireland reverted back to the way they played against Italy (with or without injuries, you can’t do that against the Argies.)

      Tactically, Ireland were also schooled.

  10. Yes I would say so Enoch.
I think the point you were trying to make (unclearly) is that England need to sit down before an IMAX sized board (fair cop! I admit it) but in the final analysis your team (Wales am I right?) need to sit down before a mini-whiteboard. There, using my teacher speak, I can’t be any clearer! It’s all a question of scale.
Wales still have hurdles to overcome and improvements to make (namely – overcoming Southern Hemisphere teams when it matters)
England were rubbish all championship but have consistently in the past overcome them when it mattered most! (In between times too – most memorably the demolition of the AB’s in 2012 – not that long ago) and Oz in the Autumn tests. Getting over the line is what counts; all the rest is hockey forgotten – Unfortunately!

  11. Argentina were definitively the best. They gave the Irish a taste of their own game.
I can’t help but remember how some Irish TV pundit on TV3 arrogantly scorned the French losing against Ireland last week. He didn’t make the same face today…

Argentina played with flair, courage, talent, obstinacy and never ever stopped to believe and fight for it. While the Irish fought until the end and gave their best, they were simply outplayed by a better team.
A lesson to give to some teams like France who gave up without a fight against both Ireland and New Zealand.

Argentina have replaced France as the strong challenger that can in match redistribute all the cards and it is great to see.

With what Australia has shown today, winning only at the last minute with a very generous hand from the referee Mr Joubert, Argentina if they are as inspired and clever than today have all their chances to make it to the final.

  12. Most of the real rugby folk in ireland .i.e played or coached at any level. have been very critical of mr schmidt for some time now and his stodgy game plan, ( 10 man rugby with a full back included ) Schmidt has been bluffing for a while now and really got found out today , his refusal to contemplate a wider game plan or consider more expansive players ( gilroy, zebo, jj hanrahan , ect ,) has really cost us dearly , he even got the team wrong today despite the injury situtation so probably fair to say that he is anything but the genius that certain pundits have us believe but he will stay on for at least another 2 years i fear but his lions credentials are in tatters now i think as a certain mr gatland is still way ahead with a mr cotter close by lol.

  13. I knew I should have put some money on the Argies. What a cracking game, now looking forward to seeing them put the Aussies to the sword next week. I reckon you’d still get good odds on Argies to win the World Cup?

  14. Assuming SL does the right thing and bows out, whoever takes over could do an awful lot worse that watch videos of the Argies yesterday.

Nothing too fancy or glamourous, just straight-forward hard work at the breakdown, superb carrying from 1-8 and only going wide once you’re going forward (and when you do go wide, running straight, drawing the man and giving the pass!)

Their blend of forward power with a solid mid-field who are comfortable on the ball and a dangerous back 3 is a template England should be looking at following
