Heyneke Meyer has named his squad for South Africa’s opening Rugby Championship match against Argentina this weekend. In the two changes to the starting XV, Duane Vermuelen starts at no.8 and Juandré Kruger comes in in place of Flip van de Merwe, who switches to the bench.
Also into the substitutes’ ranks come the experienced duo of Guthro Steenkamp and Fourie du Preez, who take the place of Trevor Nyakane and Piet van Zyl respectively.
“Continuity has been key for us this year, that is why we’ve opted not to make too many changes to the team against Argentina,” said Meyer. “It’s great to have Duane back at No 8, while Juandré has been doing great work in the line-outs all season long. To have someone of Flip’s calibre on the bench, next to the experience Fourie and Gurthrö bring is a great situation to be in.”
