Aviva Premiership Predictions 2011/12: Round 20

Now that the English interest in any European competition is over, the last three rounds of the Aviva Premiership take on even more importance.

Nearly every team still has something to play for, and that should make for some very competitive matches this weekend.

First up, I’ve picked Bath to beat Sale in what would be an upset according to the bookies. It’s a crucial match for both sides, currently in 7th and 8th, if they are targeting the top 6 and Heineken Cup qualification. The unrest at Sale since their thrashing by Sarries is why I’m leaning towards Bath, but I’m not hugely confident.

I’ve picked another away win at Franklin’s Gardens, where I fancy the Tigers to see off the Saints as they continue to time their run towards the playoffs to perfection.

In the other games, I can’t see the Falcons getting anything from Kingsholm, and I think Saracens will win comfortably at out-of-form London Irish, whilst the Chiefs should win narrowly at Worcester to remain on course for a Heineken Cup place, and possibly even the top four.

Finally, I think Harlequins are going to thrash Wasps to heap yet more misery on the troubled club. The financial worries will be affecting the players, and low morale is not something you need when you play at The Stoop against the league leaders.

Here are my SportGuru picks for Round 20:

Sale Sharks v Bath: Bath by 5
Northampton Saints v Leicester Tigers: Leicester Tigers by 5
Gloucester Rugby v Newcastle Falcons: Gloucester Rugby by 10
London Irish v Saracens: Saracens by 13
Worcester Warriors v Exeter Chiefs: Exeter Chiefs by 5
Harlequins v London Wasps: Harlequins by 21
