France names much-changed team to play Ireland

francePhilippe Saint-André has shaken things up ahead of Ireland’s visit to Paris this weekend. Louis Picamoles returns to the line-up but finds himself on the blindside flank; Damien Chouly continues in the number eight shirt after his impressive performance against Scotland.

Gael Fickou finally gets a start in the no.12 shirt, with Maxime Mermoz dropping to the bench. Remi Tales is instated at fly-half, as Jules Plisson drops out of the squad altogether.

France team to play Ireland:
15 Brice Dulin, 14 Yoann Huget, 13 Mathieu Bastareaud, 12 Gaël Fickou , 11 Maxime Médard, 10 Remi Tálès, 9 Maxime Machenaud, 8 Damien Chouly, 7 Alexandre Lapandry, 6 Louis Picamoles, 5 Yoann Maestri, 4 Pascal Papé, 3 Nicolas Mas, 2 Dimitri Szarzewski, 1 Thomas Domingo

Replacements: 16 Guilhem Guirado, 17 Vincent Debaty, 18 Rabah Slimani, 19 Alexandre Flanquart, 20 Sébastien Vahaamahina, 21 Wenceslas Lauret, 22 Jean-Marc Doussain, 23 Maxime Mermoz

Can they spoil the Irish party and win in Paris?

  1. That back row should give them some go-forward, if they’re not getting hammered at the breakdown.

  2. 4 Second rows and 2 number 8s. Looks like they are planning an expansive game!

Looking forward to seeing what Fickou can do.

  3. Boîte de grenouilles! This is one box of frogs we need to keep a tight lid on – My waters never like seeing Médard on a team-sheet. As a matter of fact I have a long list of French players I didn’t like to see (with the exception of Condom – but that was juvenile and I was still playing schools rugby with….ALAIN ROLLAND!) On that bombshell I’ll go and do the honourable thing!
